Where do young, non-college girls live in NYC?

Most of the girls I met so far this summer live uptown in the Harlem/Washington Heights/Inwood area (but not actually in the bad parts of these neighborhoods, but it wasnt too pretty either.)

These girls either were art students, dancers, or in some other not-so lucrative career field (at least at the entry level). Is this generally the case? Where do 'regular' young people live in the city?

TRUE STORY: The prospect asked me, "What's it like to work at ****?" I asked him, "You ever been to Home Depot?" "Yes" "Well, it's like that. It's full of fucking tools." And he stared, innocently wide-eyed and nodded with deep understanding
