White Plains, Stamford, or The Bronx/Harlem

So I have been approached with an interesting opportunity, however, it is slightly north of White Plains, hence my predicament.

What kind of info can you guys provide me on living in Stamford or White Plains? From what I've seen they both seem to be quite expensive, more so than where I currently am. That being said, do you think I could find reasonable housing in the Bronx or Harlem, considering parking etc, and make the commute? I'm not against the commute, but I have heard parking in NYC can be a nightmare and frankly I don't know anything about that city.

For those of you who moved there without any connection to the city, how did you find a roommate(s)? Can you recommend places to look?

Also, without revealing too much about my salary, what is a base someone can live on in New York, I've heard many-a-stories of the 'dreaded taxation' but again am ignorant. 75k? 85k? 95k? I will have a bonus as well, but no clue how big or small it could be.

Appreciate it boys

"Asset Management Guru" Stamford is full of people who wished they lived in NYC. Do not take the job in Tarrytown. The NYC job market is on fire.

Not very many energy companies that I know of in NYC unfortunately
