Why are people tired all the time?

I've never seen more people tired in the city than anywhere else. I'm not talking about people who work 90-100 hour weeks. I do that a few times, and I hate myself and my job by the end of the week. However, hours have been decent with only some weekend work now. I still get time to wake up early to play a sport or during the evening for a bit just to take my mind off work. There are days when I'm very tired from all the work and stuff, but I never complain or make it clear to everyone else that I'm tired, more so because I planned to do what I did, and I could either work to make my schedule better or suck it up.

My friend on the other hand, one of whom works at a startup for not more than 40 hours a week with no weekend work (9-5 job) and do menial stuff like scan docs, look at accounts? and stuff always complain and make it clear he's tired / has a headache or a migraine every single day. Complains so much that I complain he complains too much. By the end of the day, he looks as if he just ran a marathon and can't function properly. All he does is sleep, go to work, come back and sleep. I've seen this thing with a lot of other people as well - most of whom graduated college with me, and no offense to other jobs, but do menial work for 40-50 hours a week. If I was working 40-50, even 60-70 hours, I would take advantage and learn / do something else that I enjoy i.e. learn a new sport or something.

I'm not sure if it's just a US thing (I didn't grow up here - I've seen a way better handle over this issue from international I've worked with or know of) or just a new thing with people my age (just graduated college). I've never seen so many people complain about how tired they are and take medications for all kinds of stuff at such a young age. Am I just a superhuman for doing everything and not feeling extremely exhausted or is something wrong with me?

Yeah I get it - I’m just pulling your leg because of the way you worded the post haha.

I don’t really complain much because no one enjoys hearing people b*tch and moan, so I stay upbeat and energetic. However, some people are dealing with things that we may not be aware of so maybe that’s maybe why they vent or complain...or they just like feeling miserable and want to let everyone know how miserable they are. Who knows...so many reasons why. I usually ask what’s wrong and lend an ear, but can only handle that for so long before I feel like they are wasting my time by not taking any action to fix it.

It's called mental health issues. Some people are constantly struggling and it's exhausting. Doesn't matter if you work 100 hours a week or don't even have a job.

Your friend might have a chronic illness or disability. I do and I’m often more tired than other people partly due to having difficulty sleeping at nights.
