Combining this with the Bo Xilai story, anyone else getting the impression that those at the top in China are cashing out, which begs the question, why?
Are they nearing death or maybe they have enough? Doesn't look that way, so maybe they're trading on inside information and avoiding a significant loss.
What do they know? Either how ****ed the world economy is, or what a huge ponzi is about to be revealed in China when the EU and the US dont have any more cash to throw to the feudal lords in the east.

Who's cashing out? I read the article and I saw no mention of them moving or selling assets. Its just a revelation that chinese political families are very wealthy

The reason we cant put values on many wealthy families/institutions is because they hold onto their assets (typically propery) and dont sell any, so we never see what they have.
if the NYT is putting a figure on this, then i find it highly likely that someones been selling something. I admit its not bulletproof, but given the circumstances, it's not too far out of the box.
No idea what you're talking about. They're concealing their wealth so that they can continue their bullshit charade of keeping the average Chinese poor and under control, all the while selling themslves as 'one of the people'. It's the counterpart of hyper successful political dynasties in America implying a vote for them will help your case, when indeed it will not: aka Kennedy, Bush, Romney, Roosevelt families.

Methinks the headline for this post is a tad over the top. More likely, the Sino elite are simply re-shuffling the deck chairs via surrogates leading up to the impending leadership changes.
