Worth it to chase prestigious professions after 30? (MBB, IB, & Big tech)

Posting this on this forum since it involves big tech and MBB, even some well renowned professions outside of those as well, and it brings in that question of age too.

If you look at professions such as big tech (Google and other big name Silicon Valley firms), Investment Banking, and MBB; the typical path to starting on this profession is to graduate from a good university with good grades, good internship, and get the offer right out of college. I would guess majority of the people starting in these professions start in their early 20s.

Even though I am not sure of how viable an MBA is to break into IB, I do hear of people getting into MBB through a good MBA.

My question is whether it is even worth it to chase these kinds of professions once you are entering your 30s and want to switch over from a profession like teacher or somewhere along those lines. The kind of ceiling and limits to career movement you will face if you enter that profession at 30 compared to someone in their early 20s.

From what I read, it is near impossible to get into PE if you enter IB at an older age and once you enter as an associate, you're in the profession for good.

I talk about in regards to ROI at that point and how out of place a person starting in those professions at the age of 30 will feel being around so many people in their early 20s.

What are your thoughts WSO?

Are you dead at 30? You literally have 25-30 years of employable life ahead of you and a lifetime of work if you choose to monetize your relationships. This is the most absurd question and way of looking at life.

While you are right, it does seem like there is a sweet spot in this regard when it comes to age and that sweet spot seems to be early 20s fresh out of college.

95-99% of students at M7 MBA programs who target IB get offers in IB, and 90+% at top boutiques and BB firms. It's actually even easier than consulting nowadays if you're at a top school. To your point the normal PE recruiting path is not really targeting associates but there are exceptions to every rule. IB and consulting both will take people over 30. I know dozens of examples. One of my friends at school is 34 and had triple offers from MBB.
