Worthwhile to add Data Science skillset?

I'm an Associate level (mid-late twenties) corporate credit analyst at a big 3 CRA, and have the CFA designation, with no other masters degrees or credentials. A couple of my friends have added data science skills through online or in person courses, and seen their value in job markets increase pretty rapidly as a result (both in finance and in general), I'm wondering if it makes sense to try to learn this skillset?

Given the substantial commitment this will require, would it be worthwhile to sign up for a short 8-10 week intro course? If my goal is to eventually be a buy side credit analyst, maybe the skillset would help with parsing credit agreements, or automating some other analysis tasks that make me a stronger candidate. I'm not starting from scratch as I went to an engineering school and have some beginner level background writing code (R).
