Over the past few months I've received dozens of PMs asking for jobs and even asking where I worked at. I don't mind giving career advice but jesus christ you kids need to tone it down a bit. I've decided to paste some of the best ones I got. I have ommitted any of their usernames or private info.

"Hi Bama, happy Saturday, are you at MS?" NO!

"Just wanted to hear your thoughts:

So, I somehow got my resume passed to a boutique investment firm in NYC and had a phone screen with 1 of the seniors. I also pointed out that I will be visiting NYC during my reading week and perhaps I can grab coffee with him and learn more about his work. Its been a week (today) and I got an email back saying he would like to set up a time to grab coffee or something when I am in NYC.

Does that implied I didn't make it to next round and he wants to just make me feel better by having a chat with me or is he still testing/interviewing me when I m here?" Not a mindreader.... How the hell would I know?

My favorite message

This one below was actually pretty good and I think would scare the fuck out of the wannabe GS TMT virgins.

"FYI, and so you're more informed when guiding junior employees etc. Being at JPM/GS/MS/any other bulge bracket is a GREAT position to be in applying to MBA programs. Ops is not a hurdle to overcome, it is a positive. It is a brand name company, you are making 100k+, you have an easy story to tell if you want banking. You are in worse shape than a JPM banker, sure, but they don't apply for MBAs because they are already associates.

I currently recommend that people who land a no-name banking role, and a huge bank/company business type role, that they strongly consider the big name>mba> IB associate path, if that is what they want... If you don't mind losing your anonymity, I am currently in touch with a guy heading to Citi FP&A who I've been giving this advice to, that I'd be happy to put you in touch with.

I came from a boutique banking role, and I was admitted to a few top 10 schools, (Read my username for a hint) and wait listed at a couple of others, and I have multiple contacts who landed at Wharton type of schools with an Ops background because the rest of the profile is great. 750, 3.6, JPM non-banking is going to look pretty good vs 750 3.6 no-name-banker.

To continue my tangent, and to be completely transparent, I was a little mad when I realized my boutique banking job which I worked so hard to get is not considered to be comparable to many other jobs I couldve gotten with less effort. Financial software bus. dev. at a huge company for example. (Bloomberg or CapIQ)"
