WSO has been taken over by high schoolers

Am I the only one that has noticed this? the amount of 'WHICH UNDERGRAD' vs 'WHICH B SCHOOL' type questions and other stuff have exponentially multiplied lately.. is that just a matter of people getting acceptances here and there and a natural cycle? WHERE HAVE ALL THE PEOPLE WITH JOBS GONE

I know what your saying, but damn I wish I knew about this site pre-college. Life would be considerably different

I totally agree. It seems to me that the quality of the site has gone vastly downhill over the last several months with the influx of high school students and the increased amount of trolling (possibly related?). Either way, if you guys want me, drop me a PM, I'm not on nearly as much any more as a result.

Yeah, I've noticed a decline in aggregate post quality as well... haven't been on as much due to that and a variety of other factors (namely work load)...

This is definitely true. My username is new since I started actually working but I've been around WSO for a few years and there seemed to be a lot more informative posts a couple years ago. Now there are a ton of kids asking asinine questions or saying stupid things about stuff they don't understand.

Ditto. I used to be on a lot when I was appling to B-school, went to B-school a couple years, worked for a year, came back to check the site out, and HOLY SHIT WTF HAPPENED TO WSO was the first thing that came across my mind. I'll be around here and there but jeez this place needs to be scrubbed.

Yeah it's terrible, half of their dorky jokes I don't even know the reference. The pokemon avatars, threads about video games and other all around childish behavior. Most threads about legit finance topics get very few posts. I think these "kids" have driven away most of the professionals that actually provide the real insight so now we're left with this dreck in the forums.

they should make it like that you have to verify email through a @JPM.com, @GS.com, (all banks/boutiques/HF) or maybe even .EDU before being able to join. Obviously without disclosing where each person works.

They could also make it so you need an @____.edu address before being able to post.

Also, they could perhaps create a new private forum for those with work emails that have been verified?

They have that. Its called the certified users group.

I was thinking the same thing, I think its generally cuz recruiting season is over, but these U JELLY and pokemon jokes are just not funny at all.

I can see the same thing happening that happened with TSR's IB forum, it used to be a good mix of HS/Uni First years looking to learn and third year experienced students who knew what they were talking about. But the influx of people who are just idiots has driven all the experienced posters away and now its just a noob fest.

These fixes can be automated and should solve the majority of problems:

  1. Set it so that only users with 100 or more bananas / only certified users can post a topic. This would weed most of the trolls out, or at least them from starting stupid "Hi, I'm twelve years old and want to go IBD" posts.

  2. Post a list at the right where users can add someone as a troll and then other users can vote. Votes will count as monkey poo. After a suspected troll gets 50 votes from different users, their account is automatically deleted. 200 banana points are required to vote. Every day that a troll doesn't get a vote, they get one poo removed. If they don't troll for one month, they get taken off the list....but keep whatever remaining poo they accumulated.

  1. This would not work because what about the new guys who are not trolls and have not racked up 100 points yet? Also, I get shit thrown at all the time because people disagree with things I said. If I was doing something like "YEA IM AT A MEGAFUND U JELLY" I understand but it's just not feasible to go by Banana points.

  2. This could work.
