XBox One vs. PS4
Could some of you gamers out there give me a real quick and dirty analysis on which one to buy?
I'm probably going to rarely use it, like my XBox 360, but fuck it --- blind consumerism makes this country great.
I'm a big FPS fan, if that helps.
South Park has a great rundown of the differences. Episode was about a month ago. Hilarious.
Former Xbox360 owner, bought the PS4.
PS4 is cheaper and a touch more powerful. I've always felt that outside of Halo, PS had the better exclusive game titles. Also try and factor in what the majority of your friends have, as you will want to play with them.
Also BF4 looks amazing on PS4 if you have a good tv. Actually all of the gamesI bought look amazing.
But... the Xbox controller.

PS4
Why choose?

For strictly gaming - go ps4. For the full immersion experience, go xbox one. Assuming you have the right tv provider and a nice TV you'd probably like it better and use it more than the ps4, It'll do some crazy stuff. Just judging from your previous post about hardly using the console you have now, go xbox.
have you heard of the Oculus Rift? It's not out yet, but look into it.

Honestly if you have no connection to a particular console, the breakdown (and this is very broad I know, but it generally works) is buy a PS4 if you just want to play games, and buy an Xbox One if you want to have a full entertainment system.
Pretty much all the big games will come out for both consoles anyways so if you don't have your eye on any exclusives I'd just get a PS4. Unless of course you are a big Halo fan, but it's just not what it used to be.
Personally I am going to get an Xbox One just because I have a 360 now and my gamertag has been used for forever, plus the Live subscription hasn't run out.
I guess another thing that I just thought of is if you have a bunch of friends who play on a certain console it might make more sense to get the same one.
Xbox it has exclusive access to Halo.Sorry just had to say that.BIG HALO FAN.
I'd go with Xbox, I'm a casual gamer and I love it for all the other features it has. Honestly, I've been thinking about getting it for this game alone:

PS3 > Xbox
From the feedback I've received, the PS4 has the edge. Heard the XBox One took a step back in the user interface and friend chat features, which was an advantage the PS3 did not have. xBox One has Titanfall exclusive, which should be a ballet, but overall, I'd go with the console which your friends will be gaming on.
Neither. Buy a Steam Machine, or better yet, build your own for cheap.
XBox 360 or PS3? (Originally Posted: 09/06/2009)
For gamers out there,
Which would you choose: The XBox 360 or PlayStation 3?
I am leaning towards the XBox, but am concerned with the "red ring of death" issue; however, the XBox has great games. PlayStation 3 looks like a solid system with some good games as well....
So which one and why.
I ended up going with the xbox because there were more exclusive games on the xbox that I wanted to play on it vs. exclusive games on the ps3 (like... mgs4). Sony seems to have lost a lot of exclusive titles to which they used to have, like with the GTA series, or square-enix titles. If you're indifferent in terms of the games each system has to offer though, I would go with PS3 just for the blu-ray; for $300+ you're getting a good player and game system.
Or you could hold out for the new PS3 slim: http://www.cdrinfo.com/sections/news/Details.aspx?NewsId=25802 Seems like the prices (now lowered) will be the same.
Personally, the games matter more to me. So with that, the obvious choice would be the XBox...but the whole red ring of death concerns me.
I still have madden 07 for the original xbox, I would recommend that, Vick is unstoppable in that one.
PS3 or go home.
I think they have fixed the red ring of death problem. I bought a 360 about a year and a half ago and have never had any problems. The games on 360 cant be beat too
There are no more "red ring of deaths" if you've bought a 360 in the last year or so. Microsoft lost around 1 Billion (yes billion) by constantly replacing the malfunctioning 360's. So they revamped them, and eliminated most of the problems.
Two disclosures:
1) I'm an old guy, and my wife bought me a PS3 because I love playing Madden, so I'm not much of a gamer. 2) I don't know ANYTHING about the XBOX.
That said, the PS3 has been an absolute godsend in our home. Not only do I play a lot of games I enjoy (again, not a die-hard gamer), but the thing has eliminated almost all other entertainment components in our house.
It is an internet browser (clunky in this function, but usable), a CD player, a DVD player, and a Blu-Ray player, all with HDMI hookups. I really couldn't be happier with the system.

Have had xbox360 since Christmas 2007 and absolutely love it. Got the Red ring of death this summer but the repair was fast enough. One of the coolest things I like about the xbox is the ability to stream media from your computer.
Any other call of duty fans out there. I cant wait for Modern Warfare 2.

I don't need an entertainment system (I watch most movies online), just a system to play games. So looks like XBox 360 is the way to go.
360 definitely. PS3 isn't bad, but in terms of game selection 360 can't be beat.
And like other people said, the red ring of death problem is ancient history.
Xbox360 lets you download netflix movies directly which is much easier than sending dvds back and forth
or you could use the browser on the ps3 and watch movies for free on hulu.

Now I'm considering the PS3 again...but why the low quality of games....
Anyone here have a chipped/modded Xbox 360?
My ex-roommate had a modded Xbox 360: he downloaded all games from RapidShare with his premium account (like $5/month), then burned them. We had tons of games and never had any problems.
If I ever buy Xbox360, I'll mod it the next day.
My regular xbox is modded. I used it for a media hub but now I can do that with an unmoded 360.
