Hey dude, working late at the office right now but I have been through THIS EXACT SITUATION, down to the black ink I’m sure you used when you signed your PIP. Feel free to DM me but I’ll shoot yo a message in the AM. Happy to help answer any questions
Out of curiosity what exams are they having you complete within 2 months? How long have you had to complete them before this point? Analyst work sucks but it's standard to have to study for your exams on top of your usual workload.
We have absolutely no information as to your performance, I generally don't hear about PIPs at banks.
If you were put on, I'd seriously consider looking at your performance (IB is super cutthroat).
Either way, why would you quit? Try to up your performance, plain and simple. Worst case, you get canned, collect a nice pay cheque, and lateral to another job.
You can't be kidding to tell me with BB experience, you won't be able to lateral somewhere else.
I suppose it’s the trade off between getting canned and having to explain that in next interviews vs resigning voluntarily that I could try use reasonings ie wanted to switch to another sector/industry
Every analyst that needs to do their exams studies for them on top of their normal workload. I somehow doubt you have more work than other analysts - it's almost an achievement to be put on a PIP within the first few months of joining. You should really look at the hard facts and decide that if you want to do banking, you have a lot of things to improve on. The reality is that most PIPs lead to termination, so I would begin looking at other spots and plan on resigning so you're not left in between jobs.
In finance, I've never seen a PIP not turn into a layoff. They're usually an administrative step to be able to lay you off with paperwork to show that your lack of performance was documented. Anyway, it gives you some time to find a new seat somewhere else - just focus on that and shut all the fear / uncertainty out for now as best as you can.
