Yes. Starting salary was $60K + bonus pretty much everywhere before it was raised by $10K in the past year or two.
Yes. I think there is a lot of myopic thought sometimes. I would take it if 1st year salary was only 40K. Think about 5-10 years down the road and the opportunities GS will open up.
