Can we make a Quant Forum? - @Patrickcurtis

Some other people have been bringing this up. Can we make a forum for quants - financial data scientists, quant researchers, quant traders, quant engineers, etc...?

At least I'll be using it pretty regularly. I know that there are good amount of lurkers out here who are quant traders and researchers. Also, bunch of people in HF and S&T who are already on WSO are quants.

QuantNet has way too many people trying to get into MFE and MFin programs. Not enough about people in the industry.

EDIT: let's not forget the sell side quants, quants in AM, quants in fund of funds PE, and rare RE fund quants. Also there are people like me in a grey area doing both buy-side and sell-side type work. Everytime I have specific questions, I have to determine which one of IB, S&T,HF, AM, and perhaps even PE and RE I have to post on.

honestly this is a really tough call. While I want to do this, I also know the reality of forums that don't get enough activity...the hedge fund forum and S&T naturally has the most topics about quants in them and given that these forums barely have enough activity on thier own (~10-20 posts per day - this includes comments), I think splitting them even further is not necessarily wise (small team already does a lot of work moving threads to the right home)...

If you and a small group of say ~10 quants started posting like 5 additional discussions about all things quant per day then maybe it would make more sense, but we also have a good search function that allows you to search by keyword and filter by post date which can also serve as a defacto forum.

Is the desire to be notified when someone makes a post w the kwyword "quant" in it, get to know other quants on WSO and encourage less lurking?

Thanks! Patrick
