Future Careers in Financial Institutions

Hi,
I believe this is the correct area to post this topic. I've been really interested in the stock market and financial aspects of the trade. I heard that pedigree was a big factor in the acceptance of individuals into mutual fund careers. If so, how can I prepare myself to be a top candidate for these positions. Also, in terms of internships what institution would be the best to do a job shadow in the Denver area. Thank you and your feedback will be valued
