How do you actually start a website and get funding?

I have an idea for a website that I really want to be serious about and try to get funding for. I always see that various new website ideas get start-up money from venture capitalists firms in their various rounds of funding. Do you need to just have a detailed business plan or a actual site already together?

greenappleanyone have advice on finding someone who can code? i'm a couple years out of school and have a pretty decent idea for a site that revolves around user-uploaded video. want to find someone who's willing to work on it with me outside of work. appreciate any advice

Please take into account user uploaded video takes up a lot of bandwidth, so its extremely expensive to run. Example Youtube wasn't profitable for years....

The answer to your question is 1) network 2) get involved 3) beef up your resume 4) repeat -happypantsmcgee WSO is not your personal search function.

^^that

And finding a guy to work for free for a percentage of profits is extremely difficult.
