Internship at IDB
Hello everyone,
I have got into touch with some people to get an internship before I start university and was able to get someone to offer me an internship at an inter-dealer broker. While I am aware of what brokers, (voice, ship, and so on do) I was wondering if I can get an insight into career progression.
I have read what I could on the forums about it, and obviously will be asking the individuals I work with about their path, but I thought I might ask if their is a sort of traditional progression like investment banking? Or is it a matter of moving up from doing menial work, to working alongside them, to eventually getting your own clients and expanding from there.
Any insight would be very helpful!
You've pretty much guessed it right. ALSO: not everyone in IBD is on the 'path'. Some broke in through unconventional means, others stay for more than two years, and still more so something completely different after a while.
Thanks for letting me know I was in the right direction.

I have a phone interview with them coming up and I'm wondering if anyone has any insight about the firm. I dug up some information from the archives but couldn't find anything useful.
thanks
Make sure you express to them that your looking for a career in brokering. Do not mention that you applied to any of the investment banks (assuming you did), because they will ding you for not being specific about what line of work you want to be in.
Just my 2 cents...
