Join Scotch Club = bad idea?

So you guys always say to join clubs that you would actually enjoy, but just how much can you enjoy them? Should they be somewhat professional? Or will getting a leadership position and actually organizing events do?... There's a Scotch club here... how would that be perceived on my resume (from trading/consulting/tech firms) if I were to actually get involved/get a leadership position? There's also a cigar club that I was thinking about joining... though both of them sound like they'd be pretty expensive when it came time to test some stuff out.

Figures the scotch club, cigar club, and brazilian jui jitsu clubs are the only one's I'm thinking of since the good finance clubs aren't recruiting anymore this semester... I've never been one that likes amnesty international (did it at my community college) or anything where the leaders are over-eccentric, "let's have a bake sale!" type people...

People pay way too much effort to joining clubs that will advance them professionally. Join the scotch club, I'm sure it'll be fun. If you end up president of it, that's great. I'm sure it won't eat up much of your time. If you decide you want a pre-professional club, join it when it recruits.

Dude if you want to join the Scotch Club join the damn Scotch Club. Either leave it off your resume if you don't want it to be a risk or put it on and show your interviewer that you have some character.

Interviewers want interesting people to talk to, not Excel slaves. Live your life and the rest will follow.

What happened to joining clubs because you are actually interested in them?

I'm in a fashion type thing at school. Go for it, dude. F*ck what other people think.

Btw - I love a scotch that's old enough to order its own scotch.

Why discriminate against 18 year olds? Fun, naive, and ready to please.

Since extracurrics became almost necessary to land a really good gig haha... if I shouldn't even put it on my resume I'll probably just end up doing the jui jitsu club so it doesn't look like I haven't done much my first year here.
