legality of American investors in foreign sports betting entity

I have been having trouble with a bit of legal research and while my next move is making a JD oasis account and asking there too (Strong I know) might as well see if any monkeys here can point my in the direction of a resource or person in the know.

I have been in talks with a sports analytics firm about heading a sports betting operation for them. The company would reincorporate abroad (I'm American) somewhere where online sports betting is fully legal. I'd also move abroad and put together a small team and all operations would be in a legal jurisdiction; all bets would be placed from somewhere where it is legal to do so.

While it's far from set in stone, they like my shit enough to pay me for a bit to at least build out and backtest my models, with all the above being conditional on this going well. However, an issue that remains is the legality of American investors holding shares in this entity abroad. Everyone involved is confident that it is ok, but they are basically putting the burden on me to confirm as much and I have been unable to do so.

The precedents are very sparse and not fully analogous. I have contacted some gaming law attorneys so I'd expect someone there to come through, but since there weren't many of those and haven't heard back yet I figured I'd see if anyone here could point me in the direction of a good resource or give me a referral to a gaming lawyer.

Thanks in advance.
