Questions about Fiber Optics
A bit about me. I have just recently graduated with an ECON major and have always been keen on working in financial industry. However not so long ago, I found myself crazily interested in doing something revolutionary in technology. I saw a video regarding how humans' interactions with each other would be so much different with the introduction of fiber optics technology (here is the video's link:
). I would love to ask any WSO member here about this technology with a few questions:1. How much do you know about this revolutionary technology that is going to change the world?
2. How am I going to get myself involved in this R&D?
3. Which companies are currently doing R&D in this technology?
First off, you may be using the wrong term when you refer to "Fiber Optics" as it is not the technology demonstrated in the video.

Secondly, keep in mind that the video is practically an advertisement for Corning's specialty glass business. So, while it may be revolutionary sounding, there are probably huge hurdles the technology must climb before widespread implementation e.g. energy consumption, software development, etc.
Finally, getting into the R&D side of the business likely requires a high level of technical expertise with product design and software integration. As a result, having an engineering background would be most helpful.
Your enthusiasm is great, but you may want some further direction to focus your efforts.
