Ok, so I am a graduated senior at a southern semi-target with a couple offers that are all over the board and I need some advice from some of you older guys. I did the SA thing at a southern MM and totally hated it. I ditched banking and I ended up with a few heavily sales focused roles.
1) Junior broker/trainee at an inter-dealer broker in commodities/energy (TP ICAP/GFI/Tradition etc). Biz model seems to be fading, though the role is electronic broking. Success seems to be very team based but there is a lot of $ to be made. Plenty of guys fresh out of school doing very well for themselves.
2) Junior broker at a large biofuels brokerage with a 3 month internship/training program that should lead to a FT offer. This is the one I am leaning toward. Firms is small with a huge market share and ample overseas opportunities. Base is low for the first yr. but you're expected to be at or over 100 year 2. Very long interview process with european executives. Product has only been heavily traded for a couple years and there seems to be room to build a book
3) Sales training/Mgt. training program with a ~1B fiber optic cable company. I would be the first hire for the program and first in line for outside sales roles. Seems like a place where I could pretend its banking and outwork everyone at a junior level. Much more corporate than other places. Very LCOL
4) Internal wholesaler at a small AM with a very specific strategy. So far it has not seen any outflows due to active/passive debate. Highest Pay and I have a buddy who works here and is doing very well.
5) Ray Jay advisory mastery program.
I am not scared of working off of commission, it's what I want. These roles are really different and I want to get some input from people that are established in their careers. And yes I know brokerage and sales is a stupid way to make money when you can just stare at your sweet excel models and collect checks instead /s
