Which credit analyst position do I take?

I am being offered what seems like my choice of an internship at a commercial bank. One of the internships is a grad internship that will mainly focus on counterparty analysis of other banks through CAMELS analysis, and the undergrad internship appears to be more of a typical credit analyst's role of gathering information from borrowers, etc. (My interviewer made it sound unexciting by mainly saying it was just data entry.) I am an undergrad student, but my interviewer told me that if they cannot find a more suitable candidate for the grad internship then I may get a shot at it. There is of course the chance that they will find a suitable candidate, and I will be the undergrad intern. (which I'm more than happy with)

My question to anyone who is already in commercial lending is: Which do you think would be more beneficial for me as far as relating my experience to FT lending positions when I graduate? The position focusing on CAMELS analysis to me seems specialized. I'm sure that it will be more challenging, but I just wonder if that position would be as useful to me in my future roles as a credit analyst or something similar.

Thanks for the help!

Right, I was unofficially offered "an" internship, and they don't know which one they are going to give me yet because they are still interviewing grad students. I probably will take the grad internship if it's available, I just wasn't sure if it was as relevant to what I want to do since it entails more analysis on other lenders than actual analysis on borrowers. I do agree that it makes sense to take the most challenging role. Just wasn't sure if that was the case in this context.

Thanks!

At the end of the day, you can spin just about any role in a future interview or on a resume. What's a little more difficult (and kind of messed up) is changing titles. If you got a grad role as an undergrad, I'd be impressed and probably wouldn't put that much emphasis on what you actually did.
