2 Year Contract

In conversation with for an Ops role coming from consulting.
The role is a 2 year fixed contract. Could I get a lesson on how does this work in the PE world?
I assuming I won't have any upward mobility and basically I need to begin to find an exit by the 18 month mark.

What does PE ops exits usually include? Is it similar to consulting where one goes to a client/industry or someone just goes to another firm that needs the same skills?
