Is holding/organizing informational interviews over the Christmas period a good idea or bad?
I have heard before that their is a reduced work load so people have more time over holiday period.
However they might get pissed of being disturbed over the holiday period and it might portray me in a bad light?
What do you think?

I didn't notice anything. I'm having coffee with a group head on Monday, and an informational interview with a HF analyst the day after Christmas.
My vote would be no. You may find one or two people willing to help, but I think you're more likely to turn people off. Those who are still working are likely not going to want to spend time doing informationals if they are trying to get out of the office for the holidays.
It's ok to reach out, but I would not try to schedule phone calls/coffee/etc over the holidays. I would much rather spend what little vacation time I have with friends/family.
Unless you have a great relationship with these people, its best to wait until the new year.
