Any MF do mostly LBOs where they are lead investor/controlling shareholder

Currently in consulting and would love to pivot to PE. I'm trying to understand the MF business model, in general, and any information would be helpful. I know some MFs do more special situations type deals, like Apollo. I would love to understand if there are any MFs that are still mostly doing buyouts where they become controlling shareholders. I would also love to know if there are MFs that operate that way, if their Associate program is a generalist program. Again, thanks for the help!
