Apprenticeship II
I was telling a buddy about the Marcus Halberstram apprenticeship I did a few years back and he was quite interested in securing a semi-skilled primate apprentice of his own. I'm no longer in the investment biz, but this guy still is. If you're interested PM me and I'll fwd your resume along. He has a fairly typical background... a few years in banking, a few years at a well known PE shop, which he's still at. I'm sure the right sort of person can get a lot out of the experience. See below, which is roughly what I posted when I did a similar program 3 years ago.

Looking for two prospective monkeys, I'm putting some investing ideas together but don't have the time to actually do the underlying research. I'm hoping for two semi-skilled monkeys with opposable thumbs that can take direction and produce error-free work.
The arrangement I have in mind is the following:
I have an idea, I produce a rough outline of the thesis and dig up any necessary data to get the ball rolling.
I’ll send you the data and give you direction on how to get to where we need to be. This will include reviewing Wall Street research, investor materials, building financial models, forming an investment thesis and putting the idea into either a PowerPoint presentation or textual investment memo. It will be an iterative and interactive process.
What you’ll learn?
1. How to analyze and assess a potential investment
2. How to form an investment thesis
3. How to think about risk and areas of diligence
4. Financial analysis / modeling
5. Investor perspective/investment acumen
I'm looking for monkeys who can obviously work independently and can think through problems/analyses they have never done before. You should be able to intuitively think through and formulate an investment thesis. You should be very resourceful... advantage to monkeys who have access to market data sources (Cap IQ, Bloomberg, FactSet etc...) through work/school.
It will serve as a very valuable learning experience, one I would have killed for while I was still a prospective monkey.
You can expect to do a variety of analyses across all sorts of investment strategies, but primarily focused on buyout, growth PE and activist.
In return, you'll get the benefit of my ideas/guidance and career mentorship. Since there will be 2 of you, you'll be checking each other's work, sharing ideas, and quasi-competing. You'll get the experience and knowledge that is entailed in learning new concepts from scratch and you'll have the benefit of adding these projects to your resume and having additional concrete experience/knowledge to talk about in interviews.
PM me if interested with a few sentences about yourself, your background, what you can offer and what you hope to gain and I'll provide an e-mail address for resume drops.
