Associate Travel

How much are you guys at junior levels traveling for MPs, conferences, etc.? I'm probably around every 2-3 weeks which seems a massive amount compared to some of my friends at much larger funds, which I understand given the size of my fund with just a couple dozen people, but curious how close those numbers are to others.

I’m at a MF and in 2022, I traveled ~30 times (counted ~60 flights). I would probably say 60% were portco-related, 30% for MPs / site visits, 5% for conferences, and 5% for firm-related activities. I was surprised at the amount of travel b/c people have told me this is certainly less than pre-COVID periods, but it still seemed like a lot.

I never thought I would say it, but I’ve grown to dislike traveling for work especially if it’s a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (i.e., can’t stay at destination for weekend). First / business class and luxury hotels are nice, but it does get old after 3-4 years of this stuff. It absolutely sucks doing work while traveling and people still expect you to get everything done on time. It’s crazy because when i first joined, i used to love it and always thought of traveling as a perk.
