Best PE Firm for B-School?

Planning on doing on-cycle this year. Will be going in a group at GS/MS that historically places really well into pretty much any MF. Long-term plan to go into a field completely unrelated to finance but where a top MBA (H/S) will really benefit me. I already have the other stuff such as undergrad name and grades so I want to focus on the last thing I can control which is work experience pre-b school. What are the best firms to have a best shot at H/S?

Right now I know Berkshire and Apax have really high HBS placements. Are there any other than Berkshire that essentially have a 100% HBS placement? Any in particular that do well at Stanford?

Location plays a role - for HBS, Boston places tend to do really well. Bain, Berkshire, TA are all “less prestigious” that some other MFs but have great HBS placement.

If you want slightly more accessible firms (just because MF/UMM is such a crap shoot for recruits), look at Providence Equity and THL. Both have that historic Boston factor going and have great HBS placement even though they’ve lagged a bit as firms

In general, yes, a lot of Boston funds place well at HBS. Bain does pretty well at GSB as well.

Berkshire and TA are not MFs. Berkshire is regarded by many as one of the most prestigious UMM funds. TA is very well respected as one of the top names in growth buyout.

Providence and THL both have ~$6B funds, in line with Berkshire. Those are definitely UMM funds. Likely easier to land than Bain and Berkshire but both legit names.

Edit: Why give MS for this?

Does the same advantage apply to being in San Francisco for Stanford? If so, what funds have the best placement?

KKR generally does pretty well at both HBS and GSB, but seems to have lower % of the associate class that does the b school route given strong exits to lateral in PE or go to top HFs. With that said, their promotion cycle timing doesn’t make it easy to apply to MBA (and third year associate and principal promo both communicated in Dec)
