There are a lot of funds out there that do well, but aren't frequently mentioned on WSO. Examples: Clayton, Dubilier & Rice Platinum Equity Onex Corporation Advent Hellman & Friedman EQT etc etc

Good yearly study: http://peracs.com/2016/12/2016-hec-dowjones-private-equity-performance-…

I'm talking about liquid. Rich enough to have your own jet. Rich enough not to waste time. Fifty, a hundred million dollars, buddy. A player. Or nothing. See my Blog & AMA

As far as I know all of Waterland's funds had been in the 1st quartile, with close or above triple (!) digit IRRs - they have been one of the most consistent funds globally, if not the #1. From what I heard the hours could be worse (non-Dutch offices), but they tend to pay relatively mediocre on juniors levels and only give carry from investment manager onwards (~principal level) => shit pay as junior with the tremendous carry carrot down the road.

On that note, there was recently a study published by a prof from HEC called Gottschalg, ranking funds across "historic performance and future competitiveness" .

The top 10 were

  1. Waterland Private Equity Investments
  2. Vista Equity Partners
  3. Clayton, Dubilier & Rice
  4. Altor
  5. Platinum Equity
  6. Apollo Global Management
  7. Onex Corporation
  8. Advent International
  9. Hellman & Friedman
  10. Astorg
