Building HH Relationships

I’m looking to move to the buyside and have already had HH chats. I’m not getting as many inbound as I would like, does anyone have any advice on (1) how to build these relationships after initial conversations or (2) how to maintain them and stay on their radar?

I’m a first year banker as well if that helps! Thanks!

Recruiting has largely been pushed back to Jan. 2026 at the earliest, so there is relatively less activity than you would expect at this stage. Activity will probably kick off once everyone hits the desk and has. a few months of experience. There are still info sessions happening, but they seem super basic. Most hiring right now is for 2026 starts right now, given the push back of the timeline, I wouldn't worry about it and just wait. Nothing for you to do now, the HHs have already evaluated and bucketed you by this stage. You'll get invited to things for firms you are competitive for and not invited to things they don't think you are competitive for, just how this works. If you switch firms, update them; otherwise, there won't be much change in things. Group also has some effect, but less so than firm; still probably worth updating them if you switch groups.

How does off cycle happen without on-cycle. It is not kicking off September, my class (grad of 2024) still has people interviewing for UMM/MF roles and there are a bunch of MMs still interviewing. What recent events are you speaking off?

Lately all off cycle firms have been starting on events, and L Catterton even specifically said going to kick off in next 2-3 months, so of course it’s before on cycle which is next year (this type of thing happened a decade ago if you go look at WSO history). There is just no more “on” or “off”, those off ones would of course start early to get talents
