Can I email HR to ask if I'm moving on in the process?

I had a first round somewhere. Have exploding offers. Asked them to accelerate and they did. Had second round on Monday. They haven't gotten back to me but I was told that my original interviewer would be in touch with next steps during the second round. Not sure if this means that I passed that round or not. Since they have't gotten back to me I would assume that I didn't move on but I would like to be 100% certain because I really like the firm. Is it alright if I email HR again to politely ask them if I have been selected to move on to the third round? It seems like my second round interviewer was super busy so there might still be some confusion internally or they might not have passed it on to the person who was supposed to contact me, etc. Mid-sized / smaller-firm and less formal process so its not really structured.
