Career transition and back office in PE
I'm trying to figure out whether a non-traditional PE entrant has any options at moving from back to front office and/or learning more about possible back office options.
I'm a back office analyst (working with the CFO) at an NYC PE firm (small shop, middle market) on finance, compliance, tax and IR. Essentially fell into the firm/industry and worked my way into this role after a career in an entirely unrelated industry. I'm also in my mid-30s.
My role is a new one for my firm and while I know young guys at other PE shops or banks, they've all followed a traditional finance degree + 2 year bb bank to PE path.
Any advice on options for developing a career from here, either to move up in the back office or move towards a front office role? Unfortunately, an MBA is not an option.
thanks
