Commercial Banking Internship or Search for PE

I'm a rising sophomore at a top 20 school that I'd consider to be a semi-target for investment banking. I'm debating whether I should pursue an internship at a commercial bank in the fall or continue to reach out to local PE firms in my area. I've tried the latter but I've received 0 responses thus far and I'm worried that I'll run through all of them without getting a response. Based on previous posts it seems that commercial banking is kind of frowned upon by people wanting to go into IB. But at the same time having some finance internship is better than none. Should I do commercial banking in the fall then secure a PE internship in the spring to put on my resume for investment banking recruiting applications? Thanks for the help.
