Consulting to PE Operational Group/In-house Consulting

Thanks in advance for the help. Long time lurker, first time poster.

Currently an analyst in Accenture's MCDP program doing what Accenture calls 'strategy' work. Projects have included strategic roadmap for a bank, market analysis and due diligence for pe shop, and market sizing for vc.

Originally intended to go from Accenture to b-school, but recently a friend suggested that I look into recruiting for pe as the trend seems to be operational improvement of portfolio companies as opposed to financial restructuring these days. Was wondering if anyone had any insight regarding this matter? Was told that there were firms which staffed ex-consultants or had in-house operational/consulting teams. e.g. Golden Gate Capital, TPG.

If I do decide to go this route, anything that I can do to make myself more competitive?

Thanks!
