Corporate Finance to PE?

Is it possible to break into MM PE from a corporate finance role, with past ~1 year of IB experience?  Was initially interested down this past post-IB but missing the career progression and pace in financial services and would prefer to try more on the investing side after seeing both the advisory and operating sides. Would the best route be to try to break back into banking first? Trying to plan a longer-term path but unsure about the path now off of the traditional 2+2 path.
