Corporate Strategy at PE Firms

Anyone have any experience or insight into corporate strategy roles at PE firms? How big are the teams usually and what trajectory could you expect or exits (if it doesn't work out)?

It seems interesting but a concern is that it becomes an admin type chief of staff role without trajectory since you don't know the business as well as the deal team. Also seems these would run very lean so you'd have less support than typical and have to do much of the work you'd outsource on your own, in addition to the coordination.

corp strat as in strat for the PE firm? or corp strat for portcos? would be two very different roles - expect that corp strat for anything below a public MF would be pretty unexciting; apo or bx strategy probably does have genuine things to do, most smaller shops you're probably doing industry diligences or something along those lines
