Debating next career move
Currently leading a Corp dev & strategy team for a small public Co with about $400mn rev (got lucky to be promoted quickly). Done a couple of minority investments and looking like we'll close a $100mn deal in the coming months. I've been here 3 years
Prior to that I was at a BB bank doing M&A in an industry team, left as a senior associate
Want to try and get into PE or GE but my industry doesn't have a lot of private capital interest besides at the early (VC) stage
Thoughts on whether I should push heavily for PE now or if my chances would be better by going back to banking (as a VP), broadening industry scope (media) and then trying a year or two down the line from there

Please take with a grain of salt as I am just a silly little AN2 - but I am a little confused - maybe I am being naive but it sounds like you have a great role and are accelerating quickly + recognized and rewarded by your company for your work, all in all sounding like a dream exit for any GE/PE VP who doesn't have upwards mobility at firm / wants to leave GE/PE.
So is your goal to be a lifer in GE / PE? Otherwise I don't get the point tbh.
Maybe I am missing some details/context. Is your comp package unsatisfactory, or is upward mobility limited past this mark? Why not take your great work history, performance, and gun for an inflated title at another company in corp dev and boost comp/title?
I'm just confused as to why anyone would want to leave a firm you like and are rising in the ranks in to go back to the hell that is banking for the slim chance to break into a great PE/GE seat... Quite a grind to possibly end up in the same seat or worse seat that you're in now.
The more I think about this the more I think this is an ego stroke post / bait post lol
Seriously. What’s up with all these posts lately. Especially in this job market too
