Do analyst typically monitor the portfolio of companies?

Or do you guys just do the deals and then once you buy it out, it's passed to a different group? I am assuming this varies by firm. The reason I ask is because it could be really time consuming to monitor the portfolio if you are in the middle of a large deal.
