Do you ever think about the example that you will set for your children by working in PE?

My roommate just got a job in venture capital and she is starting to work late more frequently. I know it's a chill job but she's seen me absolutely grind so it made me wonder about the example we set for other people and how I've mentioned in the past that one of the simplest ways to compete as a junior or mid level investor is by outworking your peers and competition.

I only mention that as the inspiration for what made me think of the topic of what example we set for our kids by the way we work. At what point to impressions really start to matter?

When they are 1-3 and just a blob of goo I know it might have some impact but I feel like I can do the mental gymnastics needed to mentally "Click remote" a la Adam Sandler past that. But what about when they are 5? What about when they are 10 and they see me working more than dads who are their little league coaches?

What will that tell them about me as a human being even if I love them just as much as the other dad loves their kids? What will they internalize about what it means for a man to have value in the world?
