Based on the most helpful WSO content, H.I.G. Capital does not have a specific meaning behind its acronym. The firm is known for its strong performance and top decile returns in private equity. Despite any perceived stigma or criticisms, many professionals acknowledge the value of the experience gained at H.I.G. Capital, especially early in one's career.

Harvard Investment Group….
Are you serious? ... it's Harvard Investment Group. I believe the founders named it after the place they met. Another story is that they initially planned on only employing Harvard MBAs (later realizing that this was a stupid idea as talent can be found anywhere and the number of Harvard MBAs in Europe is quite small lol)

It was formerly called Harvard Investment Group and then later changed to H.I.G. after Harvard filed a cease and desist to stop using their name, which belongs to the school.
