Does the future PE firm you are going to join contact your current bank during the interview process?
Hello,
I have heard that either the headhunters or the people at the PE fund you are looking to join will contact your current bank during the interview process. I do not know why they do that, but that seems to jeopardize one’s full time job at their current company.
Could someone who went through this process please shed some lights into this topic?
Can you ask those individuals not to contact your current bank so you won’t lose your job in case that situation rubs your current bank the wrong way?
Thank you!
They’ll likely ask you to provide a few references at your current bank prior to giving you the offer. They also may ask someone at your bank they have a relationship with about you - really small world in finance.
Just talk to your references ahead of time, let them know you’ve enjoyed your time at the bank but this is something you’ve really wanted to do, and ask that they keep it private. They may not be happy, but they know analysts leave all the time and odds are low they’ll try to torpedo you as long as you have a decent rapport with them.
