Due Diligence on PE Deal
Hi Everyone,
I've been hired on as an intern with a small boutique PE firm in Dallas and my first assignment is to research a list of companies to find some general information on them (whether they're independently run, what their reputation/history is in the area, etc.).
So my question is how to go about finding information like this without reaching out to the businesses in question directly?
I've already seemed to exhaust all available online resources on the businesses and still have a number of blank spaces for several of the businesses in question. What are some common techniques that you guys have found to be useful in this type of work?
Thanks!
Did you exhaust Pitchbook.com?
The best source of information is people.
Talk with their customers. Talk with former employees. Talk with their business partners, supply partners, competitors etc. etc.
You'll have to do some over-the-phone social finessing but that's the fun part.
Assuming you don't have resources like CapIQ or FactSet or Pitchbook, I'd try googling company names and then keywords like acquired. If you can't find anything, they are likely still private.
Crunchbase could be useful
