Final round interview advice - PE operations role
Hi everyone, curious if anyone has any insight on what a final round interview could look like for a PE operations role.
I know this interview is 2 hours of a case study and 2 hours of behavioral, but I am trying to get a better idea of what type of case will be presented, what expectations will be, what they are specifically testing for, etc.
For what it's worth, it's a MM firm in California.
Thank you!
Have done a few of these in the past several years. Short answer: depends on the firm.
Longer and very generic answer: they are testing for horsepower and cultural fit. On horsepower, they likely want to test your ability to be the "Day 1" representative on the ground after close and onboarding, and ensure you'd know what to do and how. They may also want to test your ability to walk into something that's going south and figure out a turnaround. If you've done consulting before and were successful, this should be reasonably easy; if you have worked in operations, it will be a no-brainer.
On culture, just remember, you're entering an environment where you're probably somewhere between employee #10-50. They want to make sure you're not the kind of dude/dudette who microwaves fish in the kitchen.
