From IB ASO3 to PE/PortCos?

I'm a 2nd year (going on 3rd) MBA ASO at IB within an industry coverage group. I'm thinking about exiting into a CorpDev / Corp Strategy role at a PortCo that's owned by a PE. Ultimate goal is to rise to a CEO/CFO role. What is the best path to switch into the the CD/CS role within a PortCo and is it a viable route to become an operating partner at a PortCo? Appreciate the insights.
