Genstar / Silverlake Insights

Hoping to find someone who could shed some light on the culture / experience at Genstar and Silverlake?

Interested in SF-based UMM firms, and these two have stuck out. Don’t know anyone personally at these firms, so appreciate any insight!

Know a person or two that have gone through each firm, so will provide some insight.

Genstar - Have heard incredible things about the culture. Nice people, good work-life balance, equity for associates, etc. Seems like they have some really strong momentum - believe they just raised $12bn. Probably one of the better performing shops out in SF, and those I know who spent time at the firm literally loved it

Silverlake - On the contrary, have heard SLP maintains a pretty cut throat, every-man-for-himself mentality. That being said, they work on some of the cooler deals you'll find in the "buyout" space, and you will learn a ton. They will compensate you for the pain, and SLP is a respected name in tech investing (if you care).

I'd prefer Genstar, but to each his own
