Getting Poached

I left a 2yr associate program after 2.5 years to go to another MF in effectively another 2 yr program (get sr associate next year then tbd but guided to no path to vp for headcount reasons when I joined). My old boss moved firms and asked if I want to join him - I’ve been at this place for 4 months but opportunity is sr associate now vp in 1-2 yrs. Any advice ?

Also a good signal your old boss asked you to join him. If you have to explain why the short stint, you can say you were poached, great opportunity to work with someone you like and respect etc etc.

Obviously works better if you stay at the next place for a while.

Has your old boss been at the new firm long enough so you can be reasonably sure it is working out? Tough to ask directly. This is where it would actually be helpful to have interview rounds at the new place so you get a feel from the colleagues.
