Unless this is MIT or you have major connections, a 3.6 GPA is not great and could make it a bit more difficult, but it would definitely never completely eliminate you from recruiting successfully
No, it would. I went to MIT. Most of my STEM major friends who recruited successfully for MF did not have 5.0. Course 15s (majors in finance, business management, or business analytics) generally did have 5.0s or close to it, but it’s fairly well known that those majors are easier to maintain high grades in than STEM majors. Being a STEM major at MIT is very difficult, and unless you’re in a fraternity that heavily uses course “bibles” and things of that nature, it is extremely rare to have a 5.0/5.0. I have two friends who recruited successfully for MF PE with ~4.6/5.0 GPAs, so I would say that there is more flexibility with recruiting for MIT kids.
Yes of course it will make things more difficult. Undergrad PE is a very tough seat to land and you're up against people with equivalent schools/experience/networking who have a 3.8+
Of course still worth trying, but I would be hustling for IB recruiting in parallel so you're not putting all of your eggs into the PE basket

Don’t think MIT would make a difference. Everyone I know at MFs from MIT has 5.00/5.00 or close to it, including STEM majors.
