Harvard Endowment Fund / Harvard Management Company
Hi,
I am currently working at a MM bank (balance sheet driven like Macquarie/Mizuho) and was recently contacted about a immediate-hire position at Harvard's endowment fund (Harvard Management Company).
I know that the position is mostly fund of funds investing, and I am more interested in moving towards private equity, but wanted to know if anyone had any insight about exit opps for PE or just in general, or if you have any ideas about day to day, skills you learn, or salaries.
I have been told that while it would be tricky to get a pre-MBA PE job from there, they know some top guys at PE shops and could help post MBA (especially because you might have an in at HBS).
Thanks!
which group is it with at HMC?
have you checked out the latest news with them?
Surprising to hear because Harvard has mentioned in their institutional priorities that they're looking to move from in-house endowment management to more external management (HMC shrinking).
They are laying off half the staff: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-02-28/harvard-s-endowment-…
sounds like running into a burning building. Harvard is cutting and outsourcing its endowment fund.
