Have you guys ever heard of data analysis tests as part of PE process?

Have a final round coming up that will involve timed LBO model test + data analysis test. I’m assuming data analysis will involve quickly getting answers from large sets of data in excel, but I’ve never heard of that. Anyone have familiarity with such a test?

Any advice on how to prep or specific functions to learn? Assuming it's mostly pivot tables and sumifs?

Have a round coming up with short LBO + data analysis and consolidation. I'm assuming it will consist of dirty data that will have to fix.

Would love to know what the test you all have incorporated into your process consists of at the end.

Yeah it's basically a data dump of raw information...I'm in LMM so it's similar to the type of detail that a less experienced, more entrepreneurially-run business would deliver to us during diligence.  It's fairly open-ended, we usually just tell the candidate to synthesize what they think is relevant from the dataset provided and to summarize the key points in a few slides and to present a recommendation on go / no-go on the investment decision alongside the LBO model and the highlights / investment risks.
