How difficult is it to lateral between secondaries firms?
How difficult would it be to lateral into an associate position from a middle market secondaries shop to the top players like Ardian, BX SP, Coller Capital, etc. Would you have an edge over investment banking analysts since you have direct work experience?
Edit: currently attend a non-ivy top target school (Ross, Haas, Stern, Georgetown, etc.)
Additionally, any insight on how large secondaries fund sizes are in LMM, MM, UMM, and MF? Thanks
I rarely see these firms in the market hiring, but at the junior level you probably can. The seats are quite cushy at sr levels and people rarely leave
At Junior level if they're hiring I think you certainly would have a leg up on IB competition.
If I were at smaller place though, I might want to stay tight and grow with the firm. Those larger groups you mentioned are stacked at the top with people who have been there for 10+ years. Getting a meaningful piece of the carry will be challenging.
