How to gauge a small regional IB/PE firm?

I have an interview in a couple of weeks at regional PE firm that also has a sell-side. There are ~15 people at this firm with the lowest level being one senior associate. I spoke with a previous analyst who worked there and had nothing but good things to say about his experience other than the comp. However, I have been told that this PE firm is looking to raise another fund ~5x greater than its second fund, which was around $30m. A couple of points I would appreciate opinions on are, would this jump in fund size be a justification for expecting higher comp? Also, would working at a no-name regional firm be enough experience to move into more interesting roles i.e. corp dev at a larger company or lateral into a more prestigious firm at some point? Also, does anyone have opinions on a small firm that offers sell-side and buy-side experience? Happy to answer any clarifying questions.
