How to get a corp dev gig at a PE port co?

Been looking more and more into corp dev as PE doesn’t seem like something I would enjoy long term. For corp dev though is seems like the better gigs are at a highly acquisitive PE port cos (ideally for a MF or UMM firm) where you’re much less likely to do FP&A style work and comp is a little better than at a publicly traded F500. How rare are opportunities like these? Do you land them through headhunters or scraping LinkedIn? Any advice welcome!
